Respirator Selection Matrix: Optimize Inventories While Treating COVID-19 Patients
The ongoing shortage of NIOSH-certified N95 respirators leaves healthcare institutions struggling to identify safe alternatives to protect workers caring for patients with COVID-19. The CDC and OSHA have released guidance; but in this time of crisis it can be difficult to keep pace with, and sort through, the various information. EH&E developed this visual matrix to help healthcare providers determine when an alternative respirator may be safely used. Based on the risk of the procedure being performed, the matrix identifies the respirator options that would provide adequate protection for the healthcare provider based on CDC and OSHA guidance. This tool will also help healthcare facilities optimize their supply of respirators during the shortage.
