APIC New England 2025 Fall Conference: Bryan Connors to Present Elevating WICRA with a Cross-functional Strategy

Elevating Water Infection Control Risk Assessment: A Cross-functional Strategy for Better Risk Mitigation

A single discipline approach to the water infection control risk assessment (WICRA) can lead to incomplete risk assessments, potentially compromising patient safety and wasting valuable resources by under or overestimating risk. To address these challenges, this presentation will advocate for a holistic approach to WICRA. Infection prevention must partner with facilities and water management experts to leverage a deeper knowledge of water system complexities.

Join Bryan Connors at the APIC New England Fall Conference to learn about:

  • Infection risks related to hospital water systems by examining water from the point of entry to endpoint, including particular risks posed by plumbing subsystems.
  • Subsystems that comprise hospital water plumbing systems to better communicate with facility management on strategies to prevent infections and hypothesize sources of infection during an outbreak.
  • Integrating knowledge of water systems and infection prevention to identify and rank risk using the elements from both the “traditional” water systems risk assessment and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s WICRA.
