In Greater Boston, most buildings have remained idle for over six weeks with at least another two weeks to go, or possibly longer given the state’s 4-phase approach. Getting buildings ready for re-occupancy will take careful planning and time, given that many of the systems have seen very low usage or were shut down completely. This is further exacerbated by the fact that we are entering the critical cooling season. Directives to remain out of buildings has created a strong sense of fear and anxiety around returning to buildings and offices. We need to proactively address these fears to foster trust and confidence. Occupant expectations are going to be high that companies and landlords are taking measures to ensure their health and well-being. This session will provide a blueprint on addressing these fears with practical recommendations on facilities management of infrastructure and organizational management systems, and the use of data as a basis of communication to convey confidence in building operations by landlords, facilities managers and corporate administrators. The areas to be covered include air and water quality, cleaning and disinfection, strategies for social distancing, communication and managing operations following reports of COVID-19 positive occupants.
