Disinfection and sterilization of reusable medical devices — such as surgical instruments and endoscopes — is critical in reducing adverse patient outcomes in surgical and procedural areas. The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) ST-108 provides requirements for water quality used at different stages of medical-device processing. But many hospitals are grappling with implementation, potentially wasting precious resources by not making informed decisions based on a proper risk assessment and well-defined water management goals.
Attendees will gain valuable insight on whether to adhere to all water quality recommendations in AAMI ST-108 or institute a modest approach of partial adoption considering their facility’s existing water treatment systems and make decisions related to water-sampling practices and frequencies.
Attend this session to learn:
- How to navigate the complexities of incorporating AAMI ST-108 into your hospital’s water management plan.
- The risk assessment process and how to define facility-specific goals to ensure efficient resource allocation and effective risk reduction.
- The two main AAMI ST-108 implementation paths: full adoption and strategic partial adoption. Real-world case studies will be shared to examine the pros and cons of each approach including issues like cost, effort, and long-term benefits.
