Cracking the Case: Master Investigating Infections Related to the Healthcare Physical Environment, APIC New England Webinar

Hosted by APIC New England
Presented by EH&E

Healthcare infection control practitioners will sharpen their detective skills by learning how to apply The Source>Pathway> Receptor model to investigate infection clusters and uncover the root cause of infection. The Source>Pathway>Receptor model is a powerful tool that mimics Clue’s “whodunit” approach.

Just like in the classic boardgame, solving the infection cluster requires knowing the “who, what, and where.” The Source>Pathway>Receptor model acts like a detective’s magnifying glass. It reveals the infection source (the culprit!) and the pathway (the weapon!) that transmitted the infection to the receptor (the patient!) – all essential clues to break the chain of infection.

This webinar will feature three infection investigations to demonstrate how to apply the Source>Pathway>Receptor model. These real-world cases involve culprits commonly encountered in hospitals: non-tuberculosis mycobacterium, Aspergillus and bacterial / staph infection clusters in spaces with highly sensitive populations and complex building systems like ORs and NICUs.
