Staff Engineer I – Commissioning

As a part of EH&E’s Commissioning, Engineering & Energy Services team, a Staff Engineer I, will contribute to commissioning, retro-commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning, energy efficiency retrofit and emergency response projects. Responsible for participating and applying principles learned in project group performance. The successful applicant will be supported by a team of industry experts who will nurture and develop your career. This position reports directly to the Commissioning Team Leader. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Sales & Client Relations:

  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the business by presenting a positive, professional, respectful and professional image to our clients
  • Ability to identify & qualify potential opportunities


  • Collect quality data following specified quality control procedures and alert project managers on any deviations in procedures
  • Verify that equipment is installed and operates as specified and designed
  • Creating pre-functional and functional test procedures
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities


  • Have a willingness and openness to professional development
  • Ability to mentor and train entry level staff on various engineering and project principles

Technical Expertise:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Research and complete takeoffs to assist in proposal development, review specifications, help develop manuals
  • Learn to evaluate, mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
  • Design test control apparatus and equipment and develop procedures for testing product


  • Written and verbal communication skills are essential as you will be contributing to commissioning specific documents that are written and delivered to our clients
  • Confer with internal senior engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
  • Collaborate in a small team to investigate problems and diagnosing engineering design issues
  • Begin to develop external communication (emails and memos) with review and approval from senior staff

Financial Management:

  • Hit individual billing/targets
  • Be able to work to timelines and report any deviations to this to management

Education / Training

BS degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Construction Management desired.
